Fence Staples: How To Remove and Replace

Removal of fence staples doesn’t have to be a chore if you know what you’re doing along with a little patience and common sense. Sometimes we make things harder on ourselves than we need to. In cases like these, it’s good just to start simple and then work through whatever the issue is until we find a resolution.

So, we have gathered a successful means of how to remove and replace rusty fence staples to prevent you from stressing too much about it when you can get it done in a pinch.

Finding the Right Tools

There are all kinds of tools out there that could easily get the job done. However, if you want it done, that’s the easy part. The hard part is determining how to get it done the correct way without damaging it too much.

Again, if we start simple, then we might find that we can get the same job done with basic tools rather than using something overpowering and potentially destroying more than we intend to fix. So, let’s try nail puller pliers.

First, because they are pliers, they naturally have a similar function. And second, they have the ability to extract nails—and nails are what we are after.

The First Step

You will want to wear safety gloves because safety always comes first. In your dominant hand, open the jaws of your pliers while pulling the handles apart. This will ensure that the pliers are fully extended and ready to get to work. Now you can move on to the second step of the process.

The Second Step

Taking your pliers with our dominant hand, grip the nail with your pliers. Make sure that your grip on both the pliers and the nail is firm and ready to pull. This will be important for your safety and to ensure that you get the nail out the first time. Now we may proceed to the third step.

The Third Step

Placing a protective piece of cardboard or metal sheeting underneath the roller or the work surface will help you from puncturing or gouging the surface of what you are trying to protect and fix. Make sure that all the surfaces are carefully covered before you pull anything. If you want to secure it in place, you could always use a few barbed wire clips to secure the surface.

The Final Step

You will slowly roll back the pliers slowly and then slowly pull out the staple. It’s important that you don’t yank on the staple quickly to avoid throwing it at something or someone and potentially hurting yourself or others. So, take your time in this process, and you will be successful every time.

You should now have all the tools and knowledge on how to remove and replace rusty fence staples like a charm. These skills are always needed no matter where you are, so don’t forget them!
